Home Stylist Trade Secrets To Selecting Vases and Vessels
May 01, 2026
As a Lifestyle Photo Stylist, whether I'm styling home interiors or tabletop, flowers and vases are a must have. The vase and vessel collections in my Prop Collection for clients and for my home is one of my favorites. The Brimfield Antique Market is arriving in our area next week which is a "must go to" to find vases and all things home. While I collect some classic vase pieces, I'm always on the lookout for unique, whimsical ones as well ~ and the markets are a great place to find those kind of pieces.
Tips For Selecting Vases │
EXPAND FROM VASE SECTION
When searching for vases, don't just go to "vase aisle" in the store or the online "vase category". Expand out! Number one place I go to find vases is the Bath Section. What I look for:
Glass Drink Tumblers.
They make great small vases. I specifically look for etched glass. I also go to the dinnerware glassware section for small vases.
Tissue Box Holder. I turn them over so tissue hole is on bottom, place a glass "sleeve" vase to hold water and place flowers in that. I like the square shape of them.
Waste Basket. Great for bigger blooms and branches.

PLACE WATER IN VASE WITH FAUX BLOOMS
While real florals, (branches and blooms) are always, always the preference, on occasion, I have selected faux blooms. What I do to make the florals appear more realistic is place water in a glass vase (You could use a solid color vase) AND then I place real greens scattered within the faux blooms. (or I use half faux and half real, it makes the faux blooms like "more real".

SELECT PALETTE COLLECTIONS
For styling made easy, you can select vase and vessel collections that match in design or are complimentary in color palette. This makes your styling cohesive when you are styling blooms within vignettes, whether that be on your tabletop, shelving, coffee table. There is a cohesiveness to a collection.
